Americans, on average, are planning to visit four different destinations in 2024.<br /><br />Three in 10 individuals aim to become "experienced travelers" next year, focusing on learning and guided tours, according to a new survey of 2,000 Americans. <br /><br />Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of YMT Vacations, the survey revealed that 51% of respondents seek relaxed vacations, 43% prioritize cultural exploration, and 38% look forward to visiting historical sites.<br /><br />Among the respondents, 25% expressed a desire to explore new and unfamiliar places. On the other hand, 23% expressed a preference for visiting places they are already familiar with.<br /><br />In 2024, people are looking to travel to a variety of destinations. Mexico, Canada, and France emerged as the favorites (each with 42%).<br /><br />Spain followed closely behind at 40%, with Italy at 32% and Greece at 21%.<br /><br />When choosing a new destination, natural beauty and landscapes were found to be the most important factors (58%), closely followed by historical attractions (50%). <br /><br />Ancient Egypt and the American Revolution topped the list of historical scenes travelers (46%) wished to visit.<br /><br />The Golden Age of Greece (40%) and the Viking Age (38%) followed closely behind.<br /><br />Three in 10 would want to visit Renaissance Italy (30%), while 28% were interested in exploring World War II Europe.<br /><br />Respondents said that travel helps them feel inspired (47%) and connected (46%).<br /><br />The survey also highlighted the influence of TV shows and movies on travel choices.<br /><br />Forty-four percent admitted that TV shows play a role in their travel decision-making, with "Emily in Paris" (21%) and "The White Lotus" (16%) being popular choices. <br /><br />Movies were also influential (36%), with "Triangle of Sadness" (16%) and "Top Gun: Maverick" (13%) mentioned as notable films. <br /><br />TYPES OF TRAVELERS PEOPLE ARE LOOKING TO BE IN 2024<br /><br />Experienced traveler - 37%<br /><br />Relaxed traveler- 29%<br /><br />Adventure seeker - 17%<br /><br />Culinary enthusiast- 5%<br /><br />Wellness enthusiast- 4%<br /><br />Nostalgic traveler- 3%<br /><br />Eco-conscious traveler- 3%<br /><br />TOP TRAVEL DESTINATIONS FOR 2024<br /><br />Mexico - 42%<br /><br />Canada - 42%<br /><br />France - 42%<br /><br />Spain - 40%<br /><br />Italy - 32%<br /><br />Greece - 21%<br /><br />Iceland - 14%<br /><br />Ireland - 12%<br /><br />United Kingdom (Britain) - 12%<br /><br />Portugal - 9%<br /><br />Croatia - 6%<br /><br />China - 7%<br /><br />Survey methodology:<br /><br />This random double-opt-in survey of 2,000 Americans who travel was commissioned by YMT Vacations between June 27 and July 3, 2023. It was conducted by market research company OnePoll, whose team members are members of the Market Research Society and have corporate membership to the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR).
